Yes Sensei!

Our first karate lesson WITHOUT a one on one was yesterday and went very well. He worked very hard at staying focused on what Sensei was teaching the class and as he put it "I'm being serious." It showed! Two years ago, we wouldn't have seen this level of focus from him...it is a testament to all the hard work on his part, his teachers and the one on ones at the YMCA. That said...once it was over, I let him flap and talk about Spongebob to his hearts content. He earned it.

  1. Alex has been doing martial arts for a little over a year now. He doesn't qualify for PT anymore, so we were advised to try several things, and martial arts was one of them. He loves it! It is the first thing he has participated in in a small group that he has been successful in. He know a lot of moves now, has improved his sense of body awareness tremendously, and is following directions and focusing very well now. He just got his orange belt (there are white belts with stripes in them for the younger ones). It is so great to see him doing this!

Good luck! And thank you for your kind comments on Kristina's blog!

  2. I can imagine how proud you were of Jonah. I am proud of him too. I knew that one day he would be fine in karate without a one to one. Jonah is higher functioning than Jaylin but I have learned that I just need to step back and watch what he does because its amazes me the things he does now without someone on top of him.
